The scenery is pretty great and some of the camp sites are a descent size, with a few sites fitting 17 campers comfortably. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly and there's no noticeable trash from previous campers. Its a short drive from Denver making it a very popular camp ground for those who don't want to travel too far. My three star rating is only because the campsites where a little to close together and in the silence of nature I often could hear the camp site a little too clearly. This campground has access to well water via a hand pump which is super great to have. The area in general has some pretty breathe taking views.
A lot of trees and very extended depth camping areas. Only two pit toilets for 26 campsites but it wasn't much of a problem. Pretty secluded campground overall with surrounding areas also using toilets. 32 degrees overnight low on Labor Day. Burned lots of wood! With more clothes and better tent heater we will stay again. Easy access with nice paved Guanella pass road.
Quiet, beautiful, clean. Toilet ran out of TP, but we'd brought our own anyway
Best weekend I've had in a long time. Nice drive, too.
Overpriced for what you get, but the "market" dictates the price, I guess. The campground is usually packed on weekends. We stayed there on a recent Friday night so some of us could race the next morning in the Georgetown-Idaho Springs 1/2 marathon. Our campsite had an old shoe and some other garbage left behind. There is not dumpster so we carried that trash to Georgetown to dispose of. There are a total of 3 single-seater-outhouses for this large campground, and by evening, there was no TP! (We do carry our own, but why did we pay $18?) We normally prefer to just camp in the National Forest away from other people. When we have camped in NF campgrounds, the service has usually been far better for a lower price. I would have given it a 1 star, but honestly, we had a nice time. Our complaint was that it was too expensive for what you get. But again, demand drives the price, so we won't be back. In light of how crowded the camping is on Guanella Pass, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised at the higher price for lower service.
